Outcome
A final width/height/depth that fits your real walls (not your hopes).
Tools
  • Tape measure
  • Pencil
  • Notepad (or phone notes)
  • Spirit level
Materials
  • Masking tape (for marking)
  • Optional: cardboard for quick template
Steps
  1. Mark your wardrobe footprint on the floor with masking tape.
  2. Confirm door swing clearance and socket/pipe positions.
  3. Lock your dimensions: width = smallest measurement − 2–5 mm tolerance.
  4. Sketch bay layout (rails, shelves, drawers later).
Quick checks
  • Measure width in 3 places (floor/mid/ceiling) and use the smallest
  • Check ceiling dip + skirting/coving obstacles
  • Decide bay count (2 bays recommended) and internal layout
  • Pick finish approach (painted MDF, veneer, or ply)
